After a spell as a copywriter, Paul began his career in journalism 25 years ago, first working on a print magazine that consisted mainly of website listings because there was no such thing as Google – there was just Yahoo and 56k dial-up modems. Paul then worked in print for over 10 years on various computing titles including .net magazine and the Official Windows Magazine before moving to TechRadar in 2008, eventually becoming Global Editor-in-Chief for the brand, overseeing teams in the US, UK and Australia. Following that, Paul has been Global Editor-in-Chief of BikeRadar and T3 (not at the same time) and is now Content Director at T3 and still finds time to write for the site from time to time – keeping T3's Amazon Prime Day deals and Black Friday deals articles updated is as much of a hobby as it is work. In 2021, Paul also worked on the launches of FitandWell.com and PetsRadar.

In 2007, Paul was a finalist for Editor of the Year in the PPA Awards and Launch of the Year in the AOP Awards for his work on launching Windows Vista: The Official Magazine, which launched in 11 countries simultaneously. Whilst working on TechRadar, the site was Highly Commended for Best Consumer Website in the 2011 AOP Awards, a finalist for Best Consumer Website in the 2012 AOP Awards, winner of Outstanding Global Achievement in the 2013 PPA Digital Publishing Awards and a finalist for Digital Innovation of the Year (PPA Awards), Best Consumer Website (AOP Awards) and Best Consumer Editorial Team (AOP Awards) in the same year. The TechRadar team was also a finalist for Content Team of the Year in the 2014 British Media Awards. Whilst working on BikeRadar, the site won Website of the Year in the 2016 Cycling Media Awards, and in 2018, T3 was a finalist for Consumer Media Brand of the Year in the PPA Awards.
